In an effort to retain experienced personnel, the Army provides an opportunity to switch to a different MOS during Army re-enlistment. The option is attractive for those who like the benefits of being in the Army but feel bored or dissatisfied in their current job. They don’t normally like to pay for one AIT just let you switch to another after spending all that time and money. Work on getting it changed to what you really want beforehand. Talk to your recruiter, or if your in the Guards, your training NCO. Since you have not shipped out, there is a chance you can switch. Yes you can change your MOS once you’re in the Army but it’s not nearly as simple or easy later on. You could always accept the MOS offered (74d) and sign a short contract (3 years). How many times can you change your MOS in the Army? Be a stand out soldier and when it’s time to re-enlist you can try to reclass into your desired MOS. Your specialty assignment is determined based on your Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). There are 10 areas of specialty you can be assigned to, based on your ASVAB score. You will receive your MOS before enlisting in the Army. Is it hard to change your MOS in the Army? If you do not like your assigned MOS, you can easily request another one. So it’s possible to change MOS in the military. Much of it depends on your service record and how much your present unit command needs (or likes) you.
